| Madame Launey is the portrait of the mother of my landlord in my first of two apartments in Paris. Madame Launey lived in Saint Malo. She called me every Sunday morning and I hold many cherished memories of visits to Saint Malo. Her apartment was next to the Tiers Marins, and looked out onto the ocean. I spent many long hours simply walking the beaches of Saint Malo, judging the tide and reflecting on the tomb of Chateaubriand, which lies not far on a rock. |
